What do you like to do on vacation?
My philosophy is to go as fast as I can during the time the way so that I see and experience all that I can. It allows for a great trip, but not much relaxation. I have to admit that was the way our trip west was heading until my father-in-law reminded me that it is nice just to sit back and relax, enjoying the local sites. Lord knows that there is plenty to see in Sedona, and with all the hustle and bustle of the other days behind us, I had the best part of the vacation spending some quality time with the kids.
We went shopping, and in the middle
of the day us guys decided to pull into the Oak Creek Grill (http://www.oakcreekbrew.com/oakcreek/home.php) and try some of the liquid refreshment. Jacob got a chocolate milk, dad got a light beer (he wasn’t really supposed to be drinking but if you don’t tell mom, I won’t), and I got the sampler. The beers were fine, not spectacular, and fairly standard for what you can get in any brewpub in the country. I did like the Horseshoe Hefe-weizen to combat the warmth of the day (65 in Sedona while it was 25 in NY). We took our time and had a good chat, then went to the timeshare and tried out the pool. The kids needed to use up some energy, and the pool always seems to do the trick.
And as much as I dragged the kids around to see the sites, they told me that their favorite part of the trip was in the pool.
Sunday we decided to venture out and find a golf course, a miniature golf course, of course. We found a small one down by Oak Creek and played a round. It was a beautiful day and we were real happy just to be out of the car. The kids and I went hiking looking for a vortex, and even though we were in the right spot Jacob acknowledged that he didn’t feel any different. The red rock was gorgeous and we were able to take in some wonderful views.
The kids and I again worked up a thirst, and headed over to the Oak Creek tasting room. It was worth the trip. As the barmaid explained it, the restaurant has trouble selling their unique beers to the tourists so they have given up trying. The tasting room, however, there were two excellent beers that were noteworthy. One was their Christmas beer, a well-balance Scotch ale. The other was an King Crimson Imperial Red Ale that used its hoppiness to hide a strong (11.1% ABV) kick. Needless to say, I enjoyed the visit.
Relaxing in AZ was worthwhile, and gave Jenn and I the opportunity to truly appreciate our time with the in-laws. It was great vacation! - 5013
