Birthday parties. With two kids you get to go to a lot of them. Jessica was invited to a party today at the same time that Jacob was to go to another party. I went with Jacob up to Saratoga for a party that centered around laser tag. The kids were to play games, have pizza and cake, and then get divided into two teams to play capture the flag. It is important to get the kids to the event with their friends, especially Jacob. Our friends have known Jacob for a long time, and offered to let me leave for about an hour while they were doing cake.
I took them up on their offer, and went over to the Olde Saratoga Brewery tasting room. It is now run by Mendocino, and offers inexpensive good beer, dart boards, and will allow you to bring in your own food to eat. I got to try both the Bock and the Summer ale on draft, and am looking forward to staying longer when I have some friends in town. I got back to the party just in time to be put on the opposite team from Jacob. We had a blast, and the kids enjoyed ganging up on the adults. Jacob told me he liked it more than miniature golf, and that really is saying something.
After the party, I took Jacob over to the Local Pub to watch the third leg of the triple crown for Big Brown at the Belmont Stakes. Big Brown was an overwhelming favorite, and I thought it could be moment that Jacob and I could share seeing the first Triple Crown winner in 30 years in Saratoga. Maybe it was my choice of an Alexander Keith IPA, but alas, Big Brown pulled up and didn’t finish the race. It was a good idea that didn’t pan out. - 4652
