I love the beach. We’ve been going to the Outer Banks for 7 years, and it is really great to spend time with the family. Over the years I’ve been able to scout out all of the beer venues, and I typically have the week planned perfectly from a beer perspective. This year I stopped at the Brew Thru, Chip’s Market, Outer Banks Brewpub (the first wind powered brewpub in the country), and Dirty Dick’s seafood. We also have a sunrise club, where we pop a beer and celebrate the event.

This year we tried something different. Friday, the day before we have to leave, was designated “Beer Day.” Beer day involves having one beer an hour from sunrise to sunset. Greg and I went head-to-head, and we ended up partaking in 16 beers for the day. And to make it extra special, I was able to try 16 different beers. They weren’t 4 star beers by any means (AB Beach Bum, Bud Lite, Miller Lite, Redhook ESB, Sierra Nevada Kellerweis, etc.), but it was the thought that counted. The trick was to get ahead of the curve early in the day

when the adrenaline and the caffeine was strongest, followed by a power nap in the afternoon (the beach makes you sleepy). Waking up fresh allows you to continue the journey. - 5165
