Happy 70th!

Happy Birthday to you! We travelled down to my parents to celebrate my Uncle Ken’s 70th Birthday. My cousins planned a surprise party and since it was a holiday weekend, we went down to be part of the festivities. Jessica was singing on Friday night (God Bless America) with her chorus at the River Rats game (they lost 10-4) and we headed south half way thru the game. And with the offer of baby sitting from my folks, we headed out with my sister Karen to Iron Hill Brewery. I got a chopped salad with some soup, and tried their Oatmeal Stout on draft and on cask. I also got a couple of bottles to go, but was really disappointed when I discovered that the $25 Framboise had turned to vinegar. Yuk!

The next day we hung out until the party, and then headed over to Harry Savoy’s Grill. After a bit of a detour due to an accident on I95, we made it there and I had the pleasure of setting up the slide show for my Uncle Ken. So much pressure, I was under a deadline that I wasn’t able to enjoy the open bar. My Uncle has always supported me, serving as my boss and my surrogate father when I worked on the farm. He gave me a lot of freedom to get into some mischief at night, as long as I was out and ready to work at 0530. He introduced me to electricity (no, I don’t want to hold the spark plug anymore), hard work (no, I don’t want to work 80 hours in a week anymore), and beer (yes, I do like the delicious beverage contained in this aluminum can). The food was great (I do love prime rib with horseradish) and I found an Affligem Blonde on draft at the bar to wash it down. The kids played nicely and enjoyed their breaded chicken and ice cream sundaes. And we got to chat with Fiddle, Beetjuice, and the rest of our peculiar family.

It was great seeing everyone, and having some good food with some great beer made for an awesome weekend. – 5356
