Out of sight, out of mind. At least that is what I had hoped. Jessica was having some friends over to celebrate her 10th birthday, and we wanted her to enjoy her celebration without her older brother bothering her. So Jacob and I headed down to Uncle Dave’s for some pizza, dragon training, Simpsons and video games. We had a great evening (is it really past midnight?) even if we were drinking a stout that tasted like weasel poop, and Marty allowed us to sleep in a bit in the morning.
We went out to lunch, and I wanted to try a place that Dave new about but had not visited yet. It’s called My Place pizza (http://www.myplacepizza.com/), I checked it out on line and it looked like it offered a good selection of specialty beers. What a great bar, obviously the passion of a Red Sox fan with signs saying, “The Curse Reversed” and a picture of Varitek smashing the face of A-Rod (God, do I love that picture!). Notre Dame was playing against Navy in football (Notre Dame lost 35-17 by the way, didn’t I say I was having a great day) and they had Gulden Draak on draft, a great Belgian Tripel that I had never tried before. I had the Pastrami Reuben on Rye with a side of sweet potato fries. Jacob had the brownie sundae, and I had a Cavalry (local brewery) Dog Soldier ESB. I think I have found my favorite local restaurant.
Jacob and I got on the road and instead of heading straight home, we used Garmin to stop in at Captain Lawrence’s microbrewery (http://www.captainlawrencebrewing.com/). They were open to the public on Saturdays, and I was searching for a bottle of the Golden Delicious (a Belgian Tripel aged in apple brandy barrels) that I had on draft the weekend before. The brewery is located in a warehouse, and they definitely have their own local following. I found my bottle, and also found their Bierra De Cocco, a Mexican beer made with cacao. They also had their own Pumpkin Ale on draft, and that was excellent. But we were on a schedule, and Jacob’s DSI batteries were dying, so we headed on home.
It was a great guys weekend (we’ll include Christine since she was super cool to hang out with). – 5644/10101
"Well you see, Norm, it’s like this… A herd of buffalo can only move as fast as the slowest buffalo. And when the herd is hunted, it’s the slowest and weakest ones at the back that are killed first. This natural selection is good for the herd as a whole because the general speed and health of the whole herd keeps improving by the regular killing of the weakest members. In much the same way the human brain can only operate as fast as the slowest brain cells. Excessive intake of alcohol, as we know, kills brain cells. But naturally it takes the slowest and weakest brain cells first. In this way the regular consumption of beer eliminates the weaker brain cells making the brain a faster and more efficient machine. That’s why you always feel smarter after a few beers." – Cliff Claven of Cheers
