Happy Belated New Year! The past six weeks have been tremendously busy, with Jenn making several trips to NH to support her mom and me figuring out what it would mean to be a single father (please Jenn, stay with me for a long, long time). So on New Year’s day we were visiting mom in the hospital in Boston and needed to stop for dinner on the way back to NY. I put Garmin to work to find an escape route from the city, and it turns out that one of my favorite multi-tap establishments was right on the way. The Sunset Grill and taproom (http://www.allstonsfinest.com/) offers a tremendous menu to accompany their 112-taps.
We were seated immediately, and I got a chance to peruse the menu (both the food and beer versions). I chose the west-coast fish tacos, while Jenn got the lemon and garlic grilled fajitas. There is also pizza and burgers, fish and steaks, Mexican and wings. The draft selection was awesome. I got a sampler (what else), which included the following treats:
• Nebraska Brunette Nut Brown: Had tried a few of their bottles at Capones last year. This brown ale was malty, low on hops and was similar to an English mild. A session beer that went great with my food, and invited you to have more than one.
• Goose Island Dominique: Their version of an American sour, using wild yeast and aging the beer in bourbon barrels. It had a great balance.
• Cisco Bay Santa’s Beered: A great Christmas beer, with distinct hints of cinnamon.
• Stone Lukcy Basartd Ale: An American strong ale, brewed to celebrate the 13th anniversary of the brewery. A bit too hoppy for the style, but what else would you expect from Stone.
It was a great dinner after a stressful week. We made it home safe and sound, ready to get back to school and to work. I can’t wait to see what this year has to offer (England, Seattle, Philly, Boston, NYC, Orlando, and the Outer Banks are all on the agenda). – 5717/10290
