Once in a while, it is important to do what is best for the family. Father's Day is one of those days. I have friends that say that Father's Day is their day, and they're going to celebrate the day by going off and doing something on their own: whether it is golfing, hiking, or in my case going on a beer excursion. That is thought that hit me when I was presented with my choices for this day. I could go to Boston and hit the Boston Beer Festival. I could go for a drive to Vermont and return to some real nice spots in Burlington. Or you could do what I did, go to the Great Escape and spend time together as a family.
I chose option (c), the one that gave me least check marks in my beer book, but also produced the greatest reward with the kids. We had a good time. The downpours that occurred at the start of the day kept the crowds away and allowed us to pick and choose our favorite rides. The weather cleared, and we got to spend almost 3 hours in the water park. And when I walked by the beer tent and had the kids ask if I was going to get a beer, I said no, I'd rather share a lemonade with them (it wasn't a hard choice since they didn't have anything new for me to try).
We also chose not to eat an overpriced dinner at the park. Instead, we stopped at my favorite place in Sarotoga, the Parting Glass (http://www.partingglasspub.com/). This Irish bar has almost 20 dart lanes and 30 taps. Although there wasn't anything new, I had a Dacker Adirondack Ale from Davidson Brothers in Glen Falls. The food was great and we had the best service I've ever had at the place.
It wasn't a memorable day for beer, but as sat and put the kids to bed sipping a Nogne Winter Ale from Norway, I couldn't help but appreciate at how blessed I was. - 4205
