Roeg's Pick for 2013: Best Sports Bar

Lots of taps, great food (nachos are my favorite), and plenty of TVs.  All guys love a sports bar to go out and watch the game (or the waitresses), but for me, I’m always looking for a place that can provide you great beer.  Here are some of my favorites:

Gold: Sunset Grill, Allston, MA – The Sunset Grill (http://www.allstonsfinest.com) has something on the menu for everyone, while providing over 100 choices in great craft beer.  Great food, TVs everywhere you look, this is the place to go if you don’t have a ticket to the game.  The Sunset Grill offers 5 oz. samplers, so this year I was able to try several different brews such as Slumbrew’s Lobstah Killa Imperial Red, Jack’s Abbey ABC’s Imperial IPA, the Bruery White Oak and Hummulus Imperial Pilsner.  I love this place.

Silver: Yard House, Boston, MA – The Yard House (http://www.yardhouse.com/MA/boston-restaurant/) provides house beers from Firestone Walker (a big plus), and the chalkboard offers their new rotations to add to the 100 or so microbrew standards.  Stop by on a Sunday afternoon during football season and you’ll get to hear the crowd get rowdy, or if you don’t have a ticket to the Red Sox game, you can always pop in here.

Bronze: The Ruck, Troy, NY – The Ruck (http://getrucked.com/site/ )is my local dive bar (truly spit and sawdust), a go to place for any sporting event accompanied by great beer.  The wings are good, the bar staff knowledgeable, and you can always make new friends, that is if you are rooting for the right teams.

Honorable Mention: Fat Head’s, Pittsburgh, PA – Fat Head’s (http://www.fatheads.com/)  has a great tap selection, their own brewery in Cleveland, a selection of bottles to go, wings f all flavors, and GIANT Headwich sandwiches, this is a favorite dinner spot of mine on South Side.  With dozens of TVs, I often stop in to watch a hockey or baseball game when on travel.  Fat Head’s is a great place to hang out for an evening. - 15116
