Roeg's Pick for 2013: Best German Bier Hall
Liters
of beer, fantastic German food, lots of camaraderie, and even an Oompah band
mark the signs of a great German Bier Hall.
I love visiting these places with friends and spending the evening,
however, I’ve found that it is really hard to find a new beer at these places,
unless you actually find a new place.
Gold: Zum
Schneider, NYC, NY
- Zum Schneider (http://www.zumschneider.com/) a unique German
restaurant that we were able to visit during Oktoberfest. Zum Schneider was the exclusive US
distributor for Klosterbrau Andechs and Hofbrauhaus Traunstein beers (since our
visit I’ve actually found the beer locally).
The menu looked fantastic, and I can’t wait to return to take in the
entire experience.
Silver:
Wolf’s Biergarten, Albany, NY - Wolf’s Biergarten (http://www.wolffsbiergarten.com/) is located in an
old garage in downtown Albany, and is known for their German bier and food, and
for showing European Football matches in the morning. I’ve had plenty of the
food here, and it is all good, and once in a while I am able to find a new beer
for my list. Nevertheless, it’s a great
spot to stop for a litre and catch a match.
Bronze:
None –
I should have included Stoudt's in Adamstown, PA, but I didn't. I really do need to explore and pick out more German Bier Halls as
destinations. - 15116
